I wonder how many tan salons there are here per capita compared to areas such as Texas, California, or Florida.

Some Things Make No Sense

Moonbeam McQueen once posted about Megan Meier, and I just came across an updated article on the trial progress of the woman accused of harassing Megan, allegedly leading Megan to commit suicide. (In case you don’t want to read the article, she’s pleaded not guilty and is out, free, on $20,000 bail.)

I haven’t really been following this story all that much. It’s horrible, though. What jumped out at me was this bit of content in today’s article at the Seattle Times online.

James Chadwick, a Palo Alto attorney who specializes in Internet and media law, said he has never seen the statute [Computer Fraud and Abuse Act} applied to the sending of messages.

He said it was probable that liability for the girl’s death would not be an issue in the case. “As tragic as it is,” he said, “You can’t start imposing liability on people for being cruel.”

Say what? You can’t? But we impose laws and penalties on people for being cruel to animals. Why on earth can’t we hold people accountable for doing the same to other human beings? That’s got to be the most assanine comment I’ve ever heard. Just because the medium inflicting the cruelty was words and technology and not hands, fists, and stones, doesn’t make the act any less viscious. We prosecute Marines for throwing puppies off of cliffs, but this woman doesn’t get hit with some sort of involuntary manslaughter or something?

Some things just make no sense to me.

But one good bit of progress…

In response to the case, Missouri legislators gave final approval to a bill making cyber harassment illegal.

I Have Coded

No, not like on Gray’s Anatomy, although, maybe… but more as in coding cascading style sheets (CSS). I’ve been working on my work blog all day, just about, and finally have a template that is widget ready. Now I need to add an icon and a link to the top right sidebar so that people can subscribe to my blog.

I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do that? Anyone care to enlighten me?

Meanwhile, I’m getting pretty good at coding .php pages. Ha!

 

EDITED TO ADD: Never mind – I found the coolest tool. It’s called Add to Any Subscribe and you add it as a plug-in to a self-hosted WordPress site. Check it out. Coolest thing ever. I could have saved myself HOURS and HOURS had I found this first. Sheesh.

What’s with it?

The “possibly related, automatically generated” links at the bottom of some WordPress blogs these days? How did those appear? Is this something we have to set up on our blogs ourselves? Is it that some templates have it and others don’t?

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Stella and Lily on the Big Screen

 

Coming soon to a theatre near you. (Thanks Vinyl Villager for letting us know this was being released. They never did let the leading ladies know it was a wrap.) It appears that Stella is the leading lady, but who is that hunk of a Chihuahua stud? I need to know so I can introduce him to Lily, and then Moonbeam McQueen can finally have her teacup pup. You know she needs one while she is away from home during the week.

Chihuahuas RULE.

Second Time Around

I spent a lot of time with this little guy today and his big brother and sister – and my daughter, of course. This little top he’s wearing is one I made for his brother. (In all honesty, I took this picture about a week ago.) Evan is laughing now and loves when I play with his feet and tickle him. He wants to sit up all the time and see what is going on around him. He’s such a sweet boy. When it was time to go home, his brother Cayden said, “No go home, Gamma. You stay my house.” Those words will ring in my ears from now to eternity, especially during the days when he no longer has time for me and is too busy being a boy and playing and growing up. In a couple years, though, hopefully, I’ll hear the same thing from Evan. I am so especially grateful that I live so close and have the time right now while they are young to really be a part of their lives.

Splogs

or Spam Blogs. If you’ve been blogging for a while, you’ve encountered one. Where someone “scrapes” content from your site – your copyrighted content – and pastes it on their spam blog and links back to you. Men with Pens has a good article about this, and better than explaining how it works, they offer up a solution for how to deal with them. I, for one, am going to try their solution.

And the HGTV Dream Home Winner is..

Not me. Dammit. I’m watching the show now, and their hint of where they are shows somewhere dark and cold. Since it’s still daylight, well, dusk, out here in the Pacific Northwest, I’m certain their RV is not sitting around the corner waiting to surprise me while I’m already in my pajamas getting ready for sleep. If I can sleep that is. Speaking of sleep, I’m going to try some melatonin tonight and hopefully that will let me sleep better through the night.

ETA: Did you see the winner? She looked so completely UNDERwhelmed. Good freaking god. All she did was sit there and scratch her head. I’m sorry. If they showed up at my door, I’d be screaming  and jumping up and down and having a great time. She’s not even frigging smiling. Good god.
