New Computer Lust

My mom got a new computer. It’s screaming yellow.

I’m totally jealous. I spent yesterday taking her to a big box electronics store to purchase a wireless router and a new printer. She got a rocking cool all-in-one printer that supports wireless printing. Today I spent the whole day waiting for the installation guy and then backing up her old computer to disk.

The installation dude was great. He turned me on to a cool new Dell that he said is better – and possibly cheaper – than the Inspiron: a Vostro. I looked it up.  It seems to come with much better stuff (it’s a business class computer) and only lacks the vibrant colors.

I want pink.

  1. Okay, your mom definitely takes the cake. Will she be taking this computer to Paris with her on her next trip? Blogging live? Podcasting her adventure?

I don’t blame you for having new computer lust. I live and die by my laptop, and I keep thinking how I need to put a little bit of money away each week to buy a new one in the event that this one croaks. But I never do. I’m living dangerously, and I don’t like it.

  2. Wendy: She just might, I’m not sure. Blogging would give her a great forum to be the hostest with the mostest that she loves to be. She throws a party every month to celebrate people’s birthdays and just the “joy of living” as she calls it. I introduced her to the concept of blogging the other day (but I haven’t given her my blog urls yet) and she thought it was cool. But now with her arthritis, she types like a woodpecker in ultra-slow motion.

This computer I have is getting dangerously close to being replaced. I have had it on for less than 10 minutes and it’s already getting hot. I totally expect it to warp from the heat or burst into flames at any time. I better back it up, cuz if I lost what was on here, I don’t know what I’d do.

  3. My laptop gets really hot and about six months ago I bought a cooling fan for it. I researched them, read the reviews by people on Amazon, and settled on a USB-powered cooling pad by Antec. I love it, it works great, and for $20 it’s worth it to extend the life of my laptop. Without it my laptop gets so hot it actually shuts itself off. I’m going to try and put the link in here, it looks kind of long so I’m not sure it will paste in correctly but I’ll try:

  4. I will totally do this. That’s much cheaper than the $1500 I’m looking at, which I don’t have to spend right now. Being unemployed and all that, ya know. I will go get that today. I’m kinda worried about the overheating. It’s not so bad when I set the machine on a desk, not my lap, but hey – it’s a LAPtop.
