Relocation

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Me? I’d live along the coast somewhere. I’d have a view of the huge expanse of ocean out my living room and my bedroom windows. I’d have hardwood floors throughout, and the walk to the beach would be close enough that I could go there every day and take my little Lily for a walk. My job would be either out of my home, doing what I’m doing now, or I’d open a yarn and fabric store nearby and make sure it houses a complete selection of espresso drinks.

I don’t even know if my dream location would be on the Pacific Northwest coastline, a Hawaiian or tropical island, or some other coastline of the US. Maybe it would even be somewhere in the Mediterranean. But there’d have to be a fair dose of sunshine through the year.

What about you? Do tell. Inquiring minds are curious.

  1. the beach….a warm beach. some place where i could were flip flops and kicky little skirts every day…and never need a jacket.

the house…we have hardwood throughout this house. it is awesome. i don’t think i could live in house with carpet again.

i don’t think i would want to *own* a fabric shop….too many headaches when you are the owner. working in one would be fun, if they paid me enough to meet my bills. 🙂 you said it was fantasy….

  2. Mermaid, Yes, yes, it’s a fantasy. I love hearing what other people dream of. I love my hardwoods too, so if I ever have another home, I’ll need to make sure I have enough money to pull out all the carpets and install wood floors. Unless they come already installed, like the gorgeous old homes.

  3. I’d live in a lighthouse on the ocean. Remember that Julia Roberts movie of the early 90s, Sleeping with the Enemy? I hated the movie but she lived in this beautiful modern lighthouse with hardwood floors 🙂 and it was the most beautiful house I’ve ever seen. The wind, the cold clear nights….fabulous.

  4. I’d live in Provincetown in a big old house that was completely renovated and updated, about a five minute walk to the beach in one direction, and a five minute walk to the coffee shops and art galleries in the other. Instead of a front lawn I’d have wild cottage garden, and a front porch with wisteria growing in and out of the railings. My bedroom would be on the top floor, and I’ve have a giant round window from which I could see the ocean. In the summer I’d watch the sailboats breeze by, and open a skylight to let the ocean breeze fill the room. In the winter I’d watch the storms roll in, and I’d light a cozy fire in my bedroom fireplace, curl up with my knitting, and put an old Agatha Christie movie in the DVD player.

Sigh. It’s freezing here in the desert tonight.

  5. A cottage near a river in a temperate climate. Hardwood floors and a wrap-around porch, a decent yard, and lots of shade trees. An outbuilding for creating art. Lots of windows for the sunshine to pour in.

Here’s an exercise that a friend once gave me, and I just love it.

Picture yourself in your old age. Where do you live? What does your home look like? Is there anyone there with you? Then work your way backwards through the story until you get to the present. It’s great for visualizing what you want, and how to get there.

  6. Belle: I remember that movie. Anything by the ocean gets my vote. Just something soothing about the water for me. Probably because my rising sign is Cancer, the crab. 😉

Wendy: Ok, your description wins for me – not that it was a contest, it wasn’t. But I can imagine myself exactly living like that. When you find that place, let me know, and I’ll copy the floor plans and build an identical place a block away. Then we could go to coffee and knit together! Hee hee. And Buck can paint all the rooms. LOL.

MB: That’s an excellent idea. Now I have to work on that visualization and actually picture myself with someone there with me in my old age – not my daughters. Right now, I see myself alone, and I don’t particularly like that vision. I’ll be visualizing today, for sure.

    This was fun.
