Random Thoughts

Things I’m thinking about doing, or need to do, today:

  • Need to itemize out all my debt so I can make a plan for getting rid of it. Ya, putting it in the circular file gets rid of it, but somehow it reappears in my mailbox some time later.
  • Make time to daydream about my future, where I want to go, what I want to do, where I see myself at retirement. That’s really visionary thinking because I’m a long way from retirement.
  • Write down my dreams of the future so that I can work back from there and make a plan of sorts. Make sure it includes a male companion who will adore me, not sickeningly though, and enjoy life with me.
  • Take Lily for a walk or let her go play at the local dog park. Hopefully she’ll play. All the dogs there are bigger than her.
  • Find a way to get my sewing set up. I really, really want to sew. Anything. An apron. Sheers. A doggie dress. I don’t care. I just want to sew. I don’t know why I can’t get that going again.
  • Go to my mom’s house this evening for her monthly birthday party.
  • Stop and pick up my old work laptop so I can get some docs off it.
  • Meet an old boss and network.
  • Take a nap. Maybe two.
  • Figure out a name for my writing and editing business. This is an important one. This is why I’m stalled for moving forward. I need a business name so I can register it. If you have any clever ideas, let me know. Hey, there may be a gift card in your future if your idea is used. No promises though, cuz I’m broke right now.
  • Do the normal household crapola like laundry, bathrooms, floors.
  • Win the lottery so I can chill and also share it with my friends who also need money.

Time for more coffee.

  1. I SOOO love your coffee photo!

This is your to do list for the DAY? Lately, this would be mine for a week! I like the two naps idea.

Your mom has a monthly birthday party? How cool is that? Will you ‘splain?

I thought you’d already found a name for your business. Did you change your mind?

Of all of these, I hope that you did the lottery thing. This sounds like a priority. I won two dollars on a scratch off tonight! Woohoo!

  2. Well, let’s recap what I really got done. Nap – check. Add up bills – check. That’s about it. I thought of a name, but I don’t really like it. So chatted with an old boss over IM and came up with a viable alternative. I didn’t buy the lottery ticket because I seriously have zero cash flow. Oh and I did get some laundry done. That’s it.

About Mom’s birthday parties: Mom is a member of AA – she will have 50 years in July. She’d tell the world on her blog if she had one. (And if you know how old I am, you know I never saw her drunk, thank god.) Every month she has a party to celebrate fellow AA folks’ birthdays. She provides some basic food, all the coffee and water and tea you want, and people bring pot luck food. There’s always a cake and cards for whoever’s birthday it is. It’s fun. I know some of the people, so I go, and I go to help my mom, and I go to get out of the house. Mom’s been doing this now for about… 23 years? I think. She and my dad did this – he has 32 years when he passed on. So I kinda go as his proxy, of sorts. And her parties are kind of what keeps her going. It’s her social life now that she’s almost 88.

Mom’s pretty remarkable, that I will admit.

    Off I go. 🙂

  3. Your mom’s parties sound like a lot of fun and it’s a great idea. I tried to start a “pot-luck dinner/book club” a few years ago. I advertised in the newspaper (because I could run classified ads for free) and the response was overwhelming. I had so many people, I split it up into two nights. I met with both groups for their first meeting, we all brought a dish or dessert, and we chose what book to read and decided to meet once a month. Then I had my job moved to nights! So I never met with them again. Apparently they did quite well, they had a lot of fun. They’re probably still meeting.

  5. @ Wendy: I love your book club idea. Could you start one of those in El Paso?

  6. @ Wendy: Thank you. Her parties are fun. They’re more fun when there are a at least a few people my age there. Mostly they’re 65 and older. A book club sounds like fun. I was thinking recently, I’d invite people over for knitting or just to chat. Just something to have people other than me and my daughter in my house.

@ MB: You should have seen my mom last night when I got there. We needed to print something off on her computer and she went over to her new computer, all cute like, and opened it up, turned it on and figured out how to print double-sided automatically on her cool new 4-in-1 wireless printer. She’s so proud of herself, and she should be. I will write more about her.
