I Need a Handyman with a Pickup Truck – Kinda.

Filed under: Uncategorized — Little Miss @ 1:17 pm

Maybe that headline isn’t so good. My luck I’d get someone showing up at my door with this:

Or get a bunch of freaks propositioning me. Whatever.

What I really need is a way to run and pick up the cool things I find for free on Craigslist or wherever. I seriously need to furnish parts of my house. My front room has nothing in it but a small file cabinet and a cat box. I want it to be a cozy, welcoming sitting room. But I have no furniture for it. I saw this couch today on Craigslist, and it says first one here gets it. Well, a) it’s snowing outside and b) I have no way to get it. Not only do I not have a truck it would fit in, but I couldn’t lift it alone if I tried. It looks nice and it’s just the right color. Sigh.

Then there are so many things that need done around the house. I used to be able to do them myself, like hanging curtain rods, painting, moving things around, but I just can’t any more. Heck, sometimes if I get on my knees to dig through boxes I almost can’t stand back up from the fibro pain. And hiring people to help gets expensive, not to mention I just can’t afford it. My family have their things to do that keep them from helping, so I guess this is just my turn to whine. I think what I’ll do with my tax refund is buy a nice cordless screwdriver or drill and then I can at least hang up curtain rods. Painting a 15 foot stairwell is another problem all together, as is washing the siding outside and doing yardwork.

Maybe HGTV will come through and I’ll win the HGTV Dream Home giveaway. Or they’ll send one of those darling, cute designers – like Vern Yip – over to decorate my house. Or David Bromstadt. Any of them will do. I’d even enjoy Lisa LaPorta and Clive Pearse, except I’m not selling my house.

Ok, I’d better sweep the beautiful cherry floors now. At least I have that. And heat. 😉

  1. You definitely should be careful for what you wish for! And LM, it looks like that loveseat has some seriously stained cushions. I’m only pointing this out so you won’t be heartbroken that you didn’t get it– it’s for your own good. 🙂

  2. Craigslist is really great, and we’ve bought some cool stuff from it. But I have also gone to several “shady” neighborhoods and found the stuff didn’t look as good in person as it did online. Have you had good luck with it?

  3. @ moonbeam: You’re right. There are some serious stains on it. I guess I’m lucky in that regard. But I still need a handyman. 😦

@ Wendy: I’ve bought good stuff off Craigslist. In fact both my daughter’s bed and mine were bought off there. Nice neighborhoods. The one place I bought my bed from actually held it for me for a month after I’d paid cash for it. Stupid me, I know. I could have been out $150 but they were honest. They had a Chihuahua, so I trusted them. Good thing for me. I’ve not been so lucky with the free stuff though. Never fast enough for the good stuff. I give away stuff on Freecycle all the time. What I’ve gotten is usually junk though. Looks fine in pictures, then when I get there, I feel obligated to take it.

  4. To get out taking stuff I don’t want — cuz I feel obligated too — I never go alone, and I turn to Buck and say, “This isn’t what Max wanted, we should discuss it with him.” It’s our code for “Get me out of here without this hideous thing.”

  5. That’s a good line. I’ll remember that, if I can ever get someone to go with me. 😉 Anyhoo it’s moot point until I get a steady income again.
