When all else fails…

Go shopping.

Today I was feeling pretty down for a variety of reasons. I’ve been wanting to go to IKEA for a while now, and I desperately needed to get out of the house and have a change of scenery and fresh air. So my youngest daughter went with me and we went to IKEA. MIKAEL Desk

I purchased a desk, glass top for the desk, a drawer unit, a chair, some pink shelves, and a bulletin board. My daughter is in the process of painting my bulletin board for me in two shades of pink. My office will be a black and pink theme. Oh, and I bought some lightweight curtains for the window. When it’s all done, I’ll take a picture, of course.

We got help loading the stuff, but unloaded it at home ourselves. I was able to bring most of the stuff upstairs myself, but when it came to the desk, I just opened the box and carried it up piece by piece. And I got my exercise in today going up and down the stairs. I got everything put together too, all except the drawers. Those will probably be tomorrow, and then I’ll hang the curtain rod and curtains.

But I have to say, this desk is the right height with my chair. The other computer station I was using was too high, and the chair was an old 80s dining chair. It just wasn’t working.

And I feel a bit better. Exhausted. But not as down. So there. Retail therapy works sometimes. And I don’t have guilt about spending the money because at the end of the year, I’ll write it off as a business expense.

And, did I mention my daughter is painting my bulletin board for me? I think that’s very sweet.

  1. if you are going to be doing lots of work at the computer, it is *very* important to have a desk & chair that are comfortable. a trip to Ikea always makes me happy. pink & black theme sounds gorgeous….tres chic.

  2. Teri that is so true. And I’m always on the computer, it seems. In the past, I’ve just put my laptop on my lap and sat on the sofa or on my bed. Not conducive to good posture, but very conducive to napping. šŸ™‚

  3. I’ve still never been to Ikea, and now I want to go more than ever. I really like this furniture.

  4. Well, there are only three in your state. But you can always order online, although the guy in the store told me they ship from Baltimore. I like Ikea furniture. Some things are just as good as already assembled furniture, but some things (the really cheap things) you have to be careful of. They sometimes leave something to be desired. The only thing I don’t like about their furniture is having to assemble it myself. My rolling drawers were missing one piece of hardware, so now I have to contact the store to get a replacement. Great…
