Random Inkings

What day is it today?

I really love working from home. I really love the flexibility it affords me and the fact that I can get up, walk down the hall to my office, and go make a decent meal any time I want, do laundry while I work, play with Lily all throughout the day, and more. But one thing that does happen is I start to lose track of the days. Yesterday, I thought it was Sunday. Today, I just don’t know. I do know that I’ve been hyperfocused on the last of the edits for this lovely technical book I’m editing. It’s not really a “book”, they just call it that. It will never be printed and bound. But it is 125 pages so far of software brilliance. Not really. Although my client did comment that my edits were “magical”. Woohoo! Can you say that louder, into the recorder, please?

I’ll have more later, when I’m done fixing table titles and figure captions and paragraphs that seem so random I want to chop them out completely.

I love my job. 🙂

  1. How excellent not to be bound to the 9-5 Monday-Friday rat race! Congratulations on your kudos– I know they were well deserved.

  2. It is wonderful working from home. It’s hard to focus sometimes, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. And congratulations for extracting a compliment on your work! I’m invisible to my employer, so I know that a compliment like that, especially when you work from home, is so nice to have.

  4. It must be wonderful to work from home. My brother is a technical writer, working from home for several years. He has been at home with their daughter from the day she was born and he really had withdrawal when she began k’garten. I don’t mind getting up and going in to work most days, except for the snowy days, the icey days, the too-hot days, the “what do I wear days”, the ……. 🙂

  5. Thanks, ladies. I do like getting the compliment, even when an editor’s work is mostly invisible, this project has required extensive rewriting for flow and comprehension. And working from home is something I’ve wanted to do for years. I guess I’ve finally paid my dues and the universe is answering my prayers. And do I ever remember the “what do I wear” days. LOL.
