I’m not sleeping

Filed under: Random — Little Miss @ 9:36 pm

My youngest daughter who lives with me is in Florida for a week. I’m enjoying the quietness and tidiness of my home. But I’m also taking care of the dogs – usually her job. My Lily is a quiet, low-maintenance type of Chihuahua. But her Trixie is extremely high maintenance. Every single sound she hears outside she thinks her mommy is home. She whines, she whimpers, she jumps off the couch, off the bed, rattles her kennel when I try to put her there while I try to sleep. Everything. Argh. She’s a loveable doggie – except for she’s so high maintenance.

Top this off with my cat who has decided that as soon as I fall asleep she should scratch on the bedroom or bathroom door to the point that she slams them shut. She frustrates the crap out of me.

I’m about ready to lock them all up downstairs or give the noisy ones away. Not really. But I’m tired. I will sleep for a week straight when my daughter returns.

  1. Ooh, sorry to hear that. Funny how when the usual occupants aren’t in the household, you just don’t sleep as well. I’m the same way when DH is out of town. It just doesn’t “feel” right.

One of our cats does the slamming of the bedroom door trick, too. Drives us nuts.

  2. Oh, I’m sorry you’re not sleeping, but you told it in such a funny way. Maybe you could slip the animals some tranquilizers.

  3. Bev – I’ve decided my Maxie cat is high maintenance too. If I just call to her when she slams the door she’ll come over and sleep by my head. Seems that’s all she wants is attention. Uh but seriously, at 3 am??

MB: Seems the high-maintenance pups are quite trainable. Maybe because they’re still young. Trixie has figured out that I’m okay and she sleeps at the foot of my bed now, nice and quietly all night. If my daughter messes that up when she gets back, I’ll slip HER some tranquilizers. Just kidding. My daughter tends to have really excitable but lovable pets. And I suffer. I hope she figures out her life soon.
