Not Wiley Coyote

Filed under: Random — Little Miss @ 5:22 pm

But coyotes nonetheless. Today, I was in the kitchen and heard all this howling and yelping outside. I thought it was some punk teenagers aggravating the neighbor’s dogs. I went outside and could hear the source of the howling and yelping. Straight ahead of me I could see the movement in the bushes, and within about 2 minutes out sauntered two large coyotes, just as pleased as they could be.

Oh, and that backyard fence? It’s only 3 feet high. One of those coyotes could easily walk up the ravine and hop over the fence. We’ve had a rule in our house that the puppies do not go outside to potty unattended. I used to get lazy about it once in a while during the daytime, but not any more. I don’t care what the weather is, they stay within my sight at all times. Unfortunately, that could be what happened to our little Akira, although I dread to think that. That’s why we’ve always been so vigilant about keeping the cats indoors as well. As beautiful as the view is, it comes with some hazards.

  1. when we lived in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains, we had a bunch of feral cats that visited us on a daily basis. (could be because i fed them) many of them got to the point that i could pet them and they would come when they heard my car pull into the garage. well, when the drought got really bad, the coyotes and mountain lions came further down the mountains. saw coyotes in our yard on a regular basis. our little clan of feral cats diminished rapidly. 😦

keep a close on on the puppies!
